Senior tanker Carl Dian Fernandez stamped a shocker as he edged a .11 second lead against Jhay-Rich Gerez with 3:12.48 ticks to add another feather in his cap at Quezon National High School 2019 Intramurals triumph at Men’s 200M Freestyle Swimming at Alcala Sports Complex, June 27.
Gerez led from start down the stretch of 150M but Fernandez boosted fiery form in crunch time at the last 50M of the race outclassing his time of 3:12.59 to fall short in the second place.
“Sinasabayan ko lang talaga sila nung una tas kapag alam ko nang 50M nalang tsaka ako aariba”, Fernandez said.
Aside from this, the gold medalist showcased his top-shaped performance in the 400M and 100M Freestyle after engineering a stretched lead ticking 6:13.87 and 1:18.00, respectively.
Bagging 3 gold medals already, Fernandez was still able to storm out in the 100M Butterfly after cruising to the second place with 1:20.62 ticks.
Expert of Butterfly Swimming Marc Christopher Shane Ibarrola of Grade 10 proved himself once again finishing at 1:15.13 for first place in the Men’s 100M butterfly.
Meanwhile, fellow senior Rex Wendell Soriano pocketed two gold medals in 200M and 100M Breaststroke with one silver medal from the 100M Backstroke.
