TAGLE: A young advocate              of Baybayin

by Rajzaiken Anda and Angelo Paderon

How and when did you learn to write and learn baybayin?   -1st quarter when I first knew Baybayin then when our AP teacher taught us it I got really interested with it. I actually made nametags with Baybayin and selling it to our school, one way to promote it.

How will you encourage your co sudents to learn baybayin? -For starters, I share baybayin-related posts and to put it simply, tinuturo ko yung mga kaklase kong willing matuto ng baybayin if I have the time. And actually I created this nametag for my classmates, nakabaybayin characters sya and most of them seems to like the design and they eventually bought them hence in a way, encouraging them to learn baybayin.

From his answer itself, it already shows that he really is interested with it because with how Baybayin was interested to him he already came up with an idea to promote it by making nametags and selling it worth of P45 not only inside the campus but also in their place and even in online.

Why do you promote Baybayin? -Representation. Para saakin atleast may napapakita tayong sistema ng pagsusulat natin, if Korea has Hangul, China has Mandarin then Philippines has Baybayin. Like what ive said before, it's a writing system that I believe all filipinos should learn. Mahalaga na pag-aralin ang kultura natin ayon sa wika natin.

Why is Baybayin important? -It forms the foundation of who we are. It promotes being a Filipino as a Pinoy (culture) plus nakakaaliw siya in my opinion, parang calligraphy. It is important in a sense that it may not be a necessity but consider it significant to be taught in schools.

From the interest he had, came his interest in promoting it, he doesn’t only want to know how to write and read Baybayin himself but also open the mind for others of this handwriting system that we should be proud of. Aside from this is how knowledgeable he is in the way he promotes as well as his reason why he wants to uphold such.

How do you think will Baybayin help for the improvement of our school and its students? -Simple, since paaralan ito I think it makes sense na matututo ang mga tao na may script tayo and madaling matututo styudante dito. Ancestral script siya ng mga ninuno natin, bago pa man sakupin tayo ng mga espanyol. There is actually nothing wrong in learning baybayin so...why not? It can help revive our fading culture (since we are beginning to modernize). Let's pass everything we can for the next generation.

This just shows that his advocacy will not only benefit him but also his school and its student, he has a lot of reasons from his promotion of Baybayin to students and one of this is to bring back to life our fading culture since we really can’t deny the fact that we are begging to modernize and we can’t just die without passing this handwriting system to our next generation.

What do you think is the disadvantage of baybayin?  -It's not yet known in nationwide scale. Let alone known globally. Plus, maunti palang mga tao ngayon na maalam magbaybayin. Sad reality tho, people won’t use this commonly tbh, nasanay na tayo sa english alphabet and i doubt people will adjust, but it's understandable.

Despite all of these negative and disadvantages of Baybayin he still chose to promote and continue his advocacy of upholding our handwriting system which is the Baybayin and will continue. Even if it is only the handwriting system that he promotes it still shows that his nationality, and  loyalty to our culture is just pure as his Pinoy heart.
